"Wine, Women and Song" is the latest release from Golgotha Communications Ltd, and the first Time Theory release in over a year. It's an appropriate choice as it is a fine combination of ambient and experimental sounds with the feeling of a film-like narrative. The subtitle of this album is "a tale of excess" and it has a feeling of both adventure and regret, a soundtrack to night out that turns into a week, alternating between confidence bordering on the boisterous and the...

Afficionados of the music of Mystahr have come to recognize that specific blend of madness and magic that characterizes it. The uninitiated will gain a fine introduction to it through the sound of "Dirty Stuff". To refer to it as 'power-electronic' sound would sell it short; the sounds, noise and dynamics seem to be propelled by thier own power, the knobs and controls attempt to channel this power as best they can, and the end result is a sound you really feel that you can stand back...

Lest things stay the same for too long in the TT release spectrum, we've wrinkled things a bit with this chunky piece of Scottish breakcore. Those that prefer the periodic IDMish releases that appear in the Time Theory catalogue, this addition will tickle the spaces between your ears in a cubic, blunt but faceted way. A broad directional sweep towards breakcore is unlikely for TT, but we do like a bit of everything interesting, so enjoy this experience!

Album “Total Sensory Void” is about experiments with sensory deprivation. Technoshamanism is a domain that explores visionary voyages, altered states of consciousness and hypnotic trance induced by technological means. There have been conducted experiments in which a subject was introduced in a water tank, with eyes covered and a breathing mask, isolating him from all sensory signals. During the first 15 minutes the subject’s mind was dominated by residual thoughts. After that came a...

Light, ever the symbol of that which is good and wholesome; purveying, with stalwart benevolence, a sense of comfort, familiarity and serenity, twists upon itself revealing unforeseen depths of perversion and depravity when filtered through the tainted stain of glass. Controlled Dissonance is John Ingram (the musician, not to be confused with the Jesuit martyr or the CEO of Ingram Industries), and the moniker aptly describes the musical approach of “Glass Tainted Stain”. For Complex Silence 4, mysterybear (Dave Seidel) provides a decidedly abstract, yet sublime exploration of the Golden Ratio with two long-form tracks. He describes the creative process: "Both tracks use intervals and waveforms derived from the Golden Ratio. I usually compose in just intonation, which is based on rational numbers (whole number ratios). The golden ratio, by contrast, is an irrational number. Intervals based on irrational numbers are more complex and less consonant than pure...

In the tradition of many memorable collections of ambient works, Time Theory label head Jon 7 has put together this compilation of previously unreleased material culled from several different marathon recording sessions. The subjectivity of their selection stems from their inclusion by personal preference as opposed to strict adherence to any typical Jon 7 sound, although we challenge your ears to tell the difference.

We've compared Andreas Niegl's albums to movies so often that it's become a bit of a cliche; nonetheless we shall indulge once more in such a comparison in the case of "Quiet, Awesome". The release's songs play out like scenes of travel across a vast land mass, and it is definitely a dynamic path that is set. Through rugged mountains and low valleys of sound, you still maintain a sense of being on the ground, this music sounds like it was made on Earth. Though composed and performed...

This second Time Theory release from President Blair explores his style of noise in a different manner than usual. the sounds on this release are (untypically for music in the noise genre) entirely digital in source and construction. No tapes were harmed in the making of this recording. It was however recorded in one take using a variety of small apps running at once. Future PB recordings wil likely oscillate between this digital style and the previous lo-fidelity tape-manipulated style.

The third entry to the "Complex Silence" series comes courtesy of JMMIII (aka Jon 7). This time complex silence is formed out a field recording made on bicycle while touring around the industrail areas of west Eugene, where JMMIII lives. On any given day, metal fabrication shops and lumber mills can be heard dancing their menacing mechanical ballet, which is as much a joy to watch as to listen to. What a joy it was to listen to these tracks and simply..slow..down... Enter into a space of dark, almost magickal ambient with this release by Joel Kinsberger aka KemoKlen. These three long dark tracks will no doubt take you through a journey the feels like it smells of ritual. The tracks titles are evocative of some kind of ritualistic process. At that time it was often hit or miss as to whether he tended to keep the component parts that made up his compositions, but luckily they were kept for "Ocean Floor" and subsequently remixed once before by Turmoil,...

If the winter is proving to be too cold for you to handle, may we suggest you wrap yourself up in "190 ft Lubricated Polyester"! Our good buddy Al from Canada sent us this bundle of extremely warm and comfortable abstract, ambient and rhythmic tracks, and we've been wearing them ever since. There's a distinctly noisy edge to several of them, like a winter storm, but within the tracks lies a sense of warmth, the storm is outside. His last release made a strong showing, and of course we...

For our negative-integer numbered releases, we're proud to add this gem by Massimo Brazzini into our catalogue. "Accumulazioni" is, as the title suggests, an accumulation of tracks in this dark noisy style. The trilogy of tracks which begins the release, moves thorugh brutish harsh noise, then through a cacophony of bells and distortion, then culminating in an even noisier third part. the dramatic effect of these pieces will not be lost as it would be almost impossible to escape. The...

Earlier on in 2008, Timetheory presented a compilation of dark and noisy tracks entitled "Sprimmer", which showcased a lot of interesting artists and sounds. It seemed natural to follow up with this celebration of the season between fall and winter with "falter", our latest compilation. The focus this time was on beautiful and ambient sounds, and the contributions we received were some of the more striking and unique work that had come our way. A number of artists Timetheory...

"Operation Anvil" was one of the standout tracks from "Lovecraft", Textbeak's previous release for Timetheory. On this release we have several various interpretations of the song. It features remixes by florian filsinger (owner of politicide netlabel), ian mariano (owner of n-space records nyc), allan zane (wyrm), claus muzak (owner of philtre com) and, from argentina, agharta (on vaatican records france). Most of the remixes maintain the quirky techno style of the original,...

Auspice, (also known as Serocell, Kemadrin, Psignal) agreed to engage in a remix exchange in the same spirit and rules as "Interchange", a collaboration between Twyll and Jon 7. Each artist supplied three tracks, then remixed each others tracks, yielding twelve total tracks. On this release, Auspice's originals have a clean ambient sound to them, a sort of warm and dark sterility. Jon 7's originals are dark quiet noise tinged drones given a gently hypnotic strobing effect. Auspice's...

Somewhere between clearinghouse and thank-you note lay the contents of "Time Bonus I". A few Timetheory artists and related conspirators took the time the remix the work of other Timetheory artists and related conspirators. It's worth noting incidentally that the remixes done of Justin Robert's tracks were done as a sort of secret fan gift Twyll and Jon 7 were conspiring to do for him. Thanks to Norss, Massimo Brazzini and Twyll for remixes as well as Justin Robert and Ruins Winter...

If, as they say, Italy is one big museum, then with this release "The Scent of Morning Lights" we have stumbled across a place where impressionist themes meet pointillist and cubist methods. From the evocative titles, one would expect that the tracks are purely pastoral ambient exercises, but no, they are much more. Imagine what those titles conjure in your head, then imagine viewing the same scenes through a kaleidoscope. Then you will have a better idea of the direction these tracks...

Avast! The second part of the Fars trilogy has arrived here at Timetheory! "Risen Tin" is another collection of what we here feel are appropriate themes for non-existent movies. But what kind of movie does "Risen Tin" suggest? In our ears, it's a soundtrack to the beginning stages of a robot uprising, with the robots and humans both not entirely sure what actions to take yet. (How this reflects the authors' intent is not yet clear.) Once again it is suggested to simply...

At long last comes the release of this all-video compilation from Timetheory! We are highly excited about this. The videos were made by Jon 7 throughout 2006 for a project for FOEM. The videos were well-liked but were not used in the end. Rather than let this work go to waste, Jon 7 decided to round up various TT-associated artists to provide music for the videos, and now, 30 months after the concept sprang forth from the neural loins, it is now being presented to the public! We're happy to have this release from Sean Reardon, a longtime freind and supporter of Timetheory. Sean Reardon is a sound artist and experimental musician located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Beginning in 2006, he has utilized guitar and digital audio production software to create textures of sustained tonality and noise. Within a framework suggesting both electroacoustic improvisation and composition, conventional instrumental techniques are rarely emphasized. In one way Sean's music sounds...

Sascha Muller is a prominent name in the netlabel world, having appeared on more netlabels that we can count at the moment, as well as being head of the Pharmacom netlabel. He is also an all-round nice guy. He sent Timetheory a demo of three analogue-synth driven tracks of deceptively simple loop patterns, that are in typical analogue fashion manipulated, multiplied and processed. "Tweak it 'til it screams" is the theme of these pieces, and from the titles of the tracks, the MS20 in...

Many of Jon 7's ideas come from things seen in dreams, and "Towers" is a prime example. In the dream this album's concept came from, Jon 7 was walking through an old house where he found a large map indicating the presence of two large towers, towers that didn't actually exist but were indicative of two equipment set-ups that were referred to as the 'blue tower' and the 'red tower'. The concept as it became applied was one of two groups of people, who have settled a new land, built...

We got sent this recording by Leviathan Dumped, (a guy named David) who is the curator of the Barefoot Melt netlabel. Unfortunately at the time of this release we were unable to get in touch with him, and he has been invisible ever since. Such it is with art and artists, but we are still enjoying this release. It's noisy, but warm, and nicely abstract in places. There is a lot of sound deconstruction, some audio collage and a range of moods from one track to another. If we can find him we shall...

Once again, Andreas Niegl (Given Willingly) has presented us with a stunning effort in the form of "Weaken". We always like Andreas' albums, but this one is something special, in fact it only took two listens for Jon 7 to declare it Andreas' "best work to date". (The following description was written by the author of this release.) Tijdgeest is the Dutch word for "in the spirit of time" but one can also translate it more literally to "spirit of time" (note the small but significant difference) or "ghost of time". It is the latter that strikes every 30 seconds. Why? It is said that a human brain needs 7 seconds to properly register and remember a sound or array of sounds. But to my mind, this excludes a possible...

Timetheory label-head Jon 7 heard a sound in his head one day that he couldn't shake and set about creating some rough sketches to flesh out the idea. Then later he was transported off to a rat farm, given some highly electric lemonade and left to stare up into the night sky. Ruins Winter is an noise project from Argentina, but "Burning Flame" is not your average noise. Instead of the merely brutish scraping noise that exists, this noise is more like volcanic eruption, crossed signals and waveform disruption. It's a very nice listen, something just barely controlled about it's other wise careening feedback and tones. For music that has no normal need for restraint, that quality is used in just the right places to make this recording hypnotic while still...

"A Night on the Town" is one of a three-album trilogy by Fars, a division of Golgotha Communications. At Timetheory we are especially pleased by music with a soundtrack quality to it, which this release definitely does. Julien Skrobek's sounds were referred to Timetheory by a netlabel friend, and we were at once pleased and intrigued by what we received. The music of "Plage Concrete" marks our first venture into this style, and it's a welcome addition. Acoustic guitar, field recordings, AM and shortwave radio and other elements come together to create a sparse but ever-changing soundscape that grabs only as much attention as needed, then slips into the background. "Alternate Universes" a fairly short and simple release, is a collection of experiemnts in the use of fractal images as source for bitmap to wave file conversion. There was something about these particular fractal images though, that generated some interesting subtleties in the resulting sound files, which gave them a sound one might associate with jets of gas streaming through space. It's simple space music, but enjoyable nonetheless.
